<3 Love this pic. Beautiful horse, cute guy. I seriously thought the guy was a version of Soldier 76 for a minute(grey hair), but I still love this pic either way :D

Why the fuck does that horse have a shield over its eyes? How can it see?

If you look a bit closer you can see that it's the light reflecting in the visir. The horse can see perfectly and it's there to protect it's eyes from potential rebels :)

Yes because that's not going to spook the horse into bolting when he can't see something behind him, you fucking idiot... don't try to argue something unless you know something about horses. Nice try though.

Police horses are trained to the point that even a bomb going off behind them will not spook them. This is why Police horses are described as "Bomb Proof" The shields on the eyes have the same purpose as the helmet riot police have, to protect a very vulnerable part of the face while allowing the horse to be able to see and calculate what they need to do.

Police horses only spook, same with many very well trained horses that have been desensitised to many objects and situations, when things get too much for the horse. They essentially have a panic attack, not much different to what humans get. They can also spook if they get severaly injured, but they are most likely going to fight back before they run as their sense of flight or fight is a lot different then a normal trained horse.

A horse about to spook have their ears so flat on head that they are almost melted in, with the white of their eyes visible, and their body tensed and about to run. Police horses have a tense emotion, as in they are listening to only their rider and will most likely get pissed off than scared if you go swinging at their face trying to spook them.

Also I do volunteering with Riding for the Disabled Australia where our horses are very similarly trained to police horses in the manner of being able to work in stressful situations and not spook at the simple things. Getting an ex police horse would be all the christmases coming together for the RDA centre I volunteer at.

Not to mention the fact that police horses are going to be *trained* to not be spooked nearly as easily as your ponies.

How would it not see something behind it? I know plenty about horses. I'm sure your horse would be grateful if it had rocks thrown at it and went blind in one eye because you took off its eye protection just so it could see behind [which, by the way, is not a function of moving the eyes but rather moving the head, something which it can do]

i need to ask what you think about blinders? i mean horses have blinders on their eyes while they are pulling a wagon or a plow during farm work

Honestly, I'm done with this picture but I will answer this since it's not a snapping question.

Blinders are designed so the horse is forced to keep looking forward, so it basically blocks out anything that may be dangerous to them.

I don't like blinders, the horse cannot see around it which means, REGARDLESS of how well it's trained, it will have a very good chance of spooking. Especially if a car drives by it fast, you can train as much as you want... that fight or flight instinct is who they are, they will run off a cliff to escape a predator so putting blinders on would scare them if anything they didn't know was there, suddenly appeared...

This thread is hilarious. Why would you find learning something new (that you clearly didn't understand bc you said something stupid) to be boring? Those eye shields are probably standard gear now and that horse is probably more comfortable with them ON then it would be with them off.

Why does the horse have glasses? To keep the dust and sun from his eyes? Does he attack like a police dog? I have so many questions about police horsies.

It's a visir to protect his eyes from potential rebels. They light is reflecting in them so it can be difficult to see that they are actually clear/see-through :)
